The marvelous Grand Staircase, a living relic of another era, is located where the main passage once stood. It was erected in the 1840s and along with the sculpture gallery that flanks it. Part of Bernhard’s renovations in 1859 was the exquisite decorative stucco dome that he had built over the staircase.
