From 8 to 10 October 2015, the Fabergé Museum in St. Petersburg hosted its annual International Academic Conference. The theme in 2015 is Lapidary Art. The set of questions the conference addressed included the history of lapidary works made by the House of Fabergé, their current whereabouts, problems with attribution and the means of obtaining credible information on them and their restoration and safekeeping in museum collections. The attendees also discussed the origins of Russian lapidarists in the age of Fabergé and their place in the context of world art history. A separate batch of questions concerned the present state of lapidary art in Russia and other countries where this art form has thrived.

The conference posed itself several questions. What were the changes in the typology, style and technique of jewelry art in this period? What role did the evolution of the jewelry business play in the personal preferences of monarchs, the aristocracy and the bourgeoisie? How were the political and military cataclysms, socioeconomic changes and technological achievements of the early 20th century reflected in the jewelry business of the time? How did collectors' tastes change, and what place did jewelry art hold in private and museum collections?
