The House of Fabergé was, at least in Russia, the undisputed leader in creating objets de fantaisie. One of the forms these took was miniature household objects and furniture that could function as candy boxes, pill boxes and toilette boxes.

This bonbonnière (French for “candy box”) in the form of a miniature gold Empire style armchair is an example of Fabergé “furniture.” The candy box was made in Henrik Wigström’s workshop in the early 1910s in the Louis XVI style and covered in red and lemon-green enamel. Moving the seat slightly forward and pressing down on the edge opens the box.
