Historicism pervades Fabergé’s work, with the museum’s bracelet with lion heads, from the Kertch Treasures series, living somewhere near the root of it all. Based on the Scythian gold in the Imperial Hermitage, this Fabergé bangle, created under workmaster Erik Kollin (active 11870-86), evidences the firm’s knowledge of and reverence for historical styles, particularly those in the Hermitage. Made of gold and reduced in size relative to the original, this eraly piece is crisply and deeply rendered.
