Nicholas II received this wonderful cigarette case as a birthday gift from his mother. Made out of gold, it is covered with transparent gray-green guilloche enamel. The guilloche illustration creates a gleaming effect around the main decorative element - a gold four-leaf clover made of pear-shaped diamonds. The inside cover bears a facsimile engraving in Russian which reads, “For dearest Nicky, from Mom. 6 May 1900.”
