Folding altar "Out Lady (Assuage My Sorrows), St. Barbara, St. Vladimir"

Folding altar

This folding altar, featuring depictions of the Our Lady “Assuage My Sorrows”, Prince Vladimir and Martyr Varvara, was given to Moscow’s Governor-General Vladimir Dolgorukov from the Alexander Society of the Sisters of Mercy in the name of the Our Lady “Assuage My Sorrows” icon, which explains the choice of image in the centerpiece. Prince Vladimir was the patron of the governor-general, who by then had held his post for 34 years, while his daughter shared her name with Grand Martyr Barbara. The gift was clearly intended to mark the 60th anniversary of Vladimir Dolgorukov first attaining an officer’s rank.
