White and Blue Rooms

The White and Blue Rooms have remained largely unchanged since Bernhard’s renovations at the end of the 1850s. At the owners’ behest, Bernhard installed special alcoves in the White Room for the storage and display of their porcelain collection.

In addition, the architect increased the size of the Blue Room, adding a lantern-shaped bay window to make the room brighter and reinforcing the walls. Bernhard also granted the countess’s secret request – to create a hiding place in the Blue Room. Its existence did not become public knowledge until after the Revolution, when the palace was nationalized.
